Easy to use Optical Fibre Identifiers to complete your job faster
Optical Fibre Identifiers (OFI) are handheld, easy-to-use fibre test tool used to easily detect the presence of signals on optical fibres. They are also often referred to as live fibre detector or optical fibre detector. Using these low-cost and straightforward fibre identifiers makes it easier to trace fibre optic cables from one end to the other without disrupting the network. Optical fibre identifiers eliminate the need to open the fibre at the splice point for identification, eliminating the probability of interrupting the network.
Why do you need an Optical Fibre Identifier?
When testing fibre optic cable networks, a visible laser source connected to one end of the cable can be used to verify the transmission to the opposite end. This type of fibre optic test is only intended to detect blatant fibre defects such as macrobends. Testing the fibre optic cable continuity can also be performed to ensure that the cable is connected to the patch panel at the right location.
An optical fibre identifier (OFI) is a useful handheld fibre test equipment that can identify and detect optical signals from the outside at any point along the fibre link. Using the fibre identifier, the technician simply clamps the suspected fibre (without overstressing or damaging the fibre) onto the fibre identifier to determine the direction of traffic, detect modulation, and determine core power reading. This measurement can be made at the "speed of light", so the technician can assess the system's viability fairly quickly. Some optical fibre identifiers like the OFI-50 and OFI-100 from Jonard Tools, are equipped with audible tone indicators as well as visual displays.
Advanced Optical Fibre Identifier with Power Meter & VFL
Quickly identify the direction of light in a fibre and display its relative power without damaging the fibres. This fibre identifier includes a built-in VFL and Power Meter for convenience.

Won Product of the Year 2021
This low-cost OFI uses three different modulation frequencies (270 Hz, 1kHz, 2 kHz) and comes with four different adapter heads (3 mm, 2 mm, 900 nm, and 250 nm) to test a wide range of fibre optic cables.
Live Fibre Identifier
Live Fibre Identifier from VIAVI solutions easily identifies the optical signal without having to disconnect the fibre. This live fibre identifier converts to an Optical Power Meter (OPM) providing twice the value for your investment and reducing the number of tools carried on the job.
Live Optical Fibre Identifier
This easy to use Optical Fibre Identifier detects the direction of the SM fibre signal or indicates whether it is a live or dark fiber without interfering with traffic on the fibre. A universal connector is also included for fibres of 0.25, 0.9, 2.0, and 3.0mm, so there is no need to change the fibre clamp.
