COURSE MODULES AND CURRICULUM:

Module 1: An Introduction To Fibre Optics (Day 1 – Theory)

This theory day covers the basics of data, fibre types (Singlemode, Multimode etc), optical handling & safety, how fibre is made, how fibre optic links work, types of fibre optic cable, types of connectors and splices, fibre optic installation and FTTx networks (Passive Optical Networks -PON).

Module 2: Fibre Optic Cable Jointing and Termination Methods (Day 2)

This practical day covers fibre optic tools, jacket preparation, cutting, cleaving and marking / identification, cable & enclosure preparation, fibre optic terminations and splicing, types of connectors, end-face conditions and cleaning, splicing procedures

(Fusion and mechanical splicing), enclosures and looming.

Module 3: Fibre Optic Test and Measurement (Day 3)

Day three is all about design and testing – including an exam for the participant. We cover units of measurements in fibre optic networks, dB and dBm, understanding transmission electronics and power budgets (link loss calculations, determining reach, using attenuators), installation, testing and documentation, using a fibre inspection microscope, live fibre identifier, light source & power meter, measuring gain and loss, and understanding an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), then providing commissioning and as-built documentation.

A: Absolutely, we do offer remote training when there are sufficient participants interested. Our trainer has an extensive track record of conducting remote training sessions, having successfully delivered courses in various locations including Orange, NSW, Brisbane, QLD, Melbourne, VIC, Perth, WA and even as far as Port Moresby in PNG. So, distance is not a barrier to accessing our high-quality training programs.

Q: Can this course be condensed to 2 days?
A: Yes, it’s certainly possible to condense the course into a 2-day format. The training sessions would run from 7:30 am to 4 pm on both days. However, it’s important to note that this condensed schedule requires participants to be fully engaged and prepared. Each participant would need to study intensively on the first evening to cover the necessary material. On the second day, an exam would be administered around 2:45 pm. This fast-paced option is designed for those who are looking for an accelerated learning experience.

Q: How is the training conducted?
A: Ideally, we prefer to conduct our training sessions face-to-face. Fibre optic training involves hands-on activities and the exchange of physical components, which can be challenging to replicate over Zoom. Additionally, day 2 of the training is focused on practical exercises, making in-person instruction highly beneficial. In cases where face-to-face training is not feasible, we can explore a hybrid approach. Participants could engage in day 1 of the training via Zoom, and for days 2 and 3, our trainer can travel to your location to deliver the practical components. Please keep in mind that this option may involve additional costs associated with travel and accommodations.
